Dr. Michael Furlong has been serving patients in San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, and the greater San Francisco Bay Area for more than a decade. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in regular and bladeless Custom Wavefront LASIK, PRK, ICL phakic IOL implants, multifocal lens implants and cataract surgery with advanced lenses. Dr. Furlong's Background
A graduate of Stanford University, Dr. Furlong earned his MD at the University of Hawaii, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class. Following medical school, he completed a three-year residency in the ophthalmology program at the University of Utah Moran Eye Center, one of the most competitive surgical training programs in the country. He elected to further his formal education with a one-year refractive surgery and corneal fellowship at the prestigious Gimbel Eye Center, where he studied under Dr. Howard Gimbel, one of the world's leading authorities on refractive surgery. Dr. Furlong is one of only a handful of surgeons nationwide with this type of specialized training.
Dr. Furlong has co-authored several articles and book chapters on refractive surgery and has presented his research at national ophthalmology conferences. He has trained ophthalmologists in Thailand and China in the most current refractive surgery techniques and continues to teach about the latest advances by offering regular continuing education courses to other medical professionals in San Jose and the San Francisco Bay Area.
