Dr. Chirag Patel grew up in the Bay Area and received his undergraduate degree with High Honors from the University of California, Berkeley followed by a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of California, San Diego. He performed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee where he was bestowed with the honor of Chief Resident. He then spent an additional year to further his ophthalmic training with a Fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan. Excited to move back home, Dr. Patel returned to the Bay Area and joined Turner Eye Institute.
Dr. Patel specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the cornea, anterior segment, and lens. He particularly enjoys cataract/intraocular lens surgery, refractive procedures (including LASIK and PRK), keratoconus treatments and corneal transplantation including cutting edge techniques such as partial thickness transplants.
Dr. Patel is a member of numerous medical associations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and The Cornea Society.

For over 25 years, Dr. Stephen Turner has been providing vision correction surgery to residents of San Francisco and the Bay Area. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a trained fellow at the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Stephen Turner is also certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery and has completed specialized post-doctorate training at prestigious corneal fellowships both at the prestigious University of California Medical Center in San Francisco and at the internationally acclaimed Saint John’s Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel. While providing valuable information to local optometrists and medical doctors, Dr. Turner, a keratoconus specialist, has taught surgical courses at the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting (including information about keratoconus treatment). His practice and operating room have been visited by many eye surgeons and he has been invited to speak at numerous meetings of Ophthalmologists (including LASIK Surgeons, Cataract Surgeons, and Keratoconus Specialists) and Optometrists.
Stephen G. Turner obtained his M.D. degree from prestigious Baylor Medical School in Houston, Texas (which is ranked among the top 15 medical schools in the US). Following this early training, he completed a surgical internship at Baylor Medical School affiliated hospitals and served two years in the U.S. Army as a flight surgeon.
After gaining valuable experience, Dr. Stephen Turner entered an ophthalmology residency at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco (One of the top 5 residencies in the USA). This was followed by a year fellowship in which he was the corneal director of the eye bank at Saint John’s Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel and then a visiting fellowship at the prestigious Moorfield Eye Hospital in London, England (the top eye hospital in England). Dr. Stephen Turner also completed a specialized corneal fellowship at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco, Dr. Stephen Turner was a clinical FDA investigator for LASIK Surgery and continues to be a clinical FDA investigator for numerous ophthalmic technologies. As a keratoconus specialist, he is currently performing Intacs and other surgical treatments that are required by some of his patients.
Dr. Turner is a founder of Horizon Vision Centers and has emphasized that the centers (located in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California remain on the forefront of new FDA approved technology. In conjunction with Horizon Vision Center, the Turner Eye Institute has been on the forefront of every new development in refractive and cataract surgery.
